In India, this time of year is Festive Season. New Covid-19 cases is below 3K and again almost everyone is behaving as if the pandemic is over, for 2nd time (no one is wearing mask and those who are wearing it are wearing it like some wearable: sometimes on face & most of the time hanging in the neck). But what is the situation across the worldwide?
Again I like to make it clear that I have ZERO intentions of being fearmonger..
Here is the weekly data from the site WorldoMeter : Google Spreadsheet and few facts..
In last 7 days 11,702,565 news cases were detected compared to 11,150,140 in the preceding week, a ~5% increase.
Speaking about only Top 10 Countries (by new cases detected) in last 2 weeks total 14,577,391 cases are newly added.
The cases are increasing rapidly in these countries. Within the same per period deaths in Top 10 Countries (by new cases detected) is as follows:
The number of deaths per week had been almost same in last 2 weeks. But if you look for Top 10 Countries with most deaths then it is as follows:
The number of deaths per week in these countries has decreased. You can tweak with sheet to arrange data differently.
Here is what I think..
People are getting normalized to the pandemic, accepting the “Co-Exist with Covid-19” approach, which is a good thing. But at the same time, people as becomes less cautious and avoiding to follow covid appropriate behavior. This might be a concerning thing, considering possible mutations in virus and since the vaccine efficacy decreases with time.
